We are stepping into a strange, uneasy domain. I feel that unease in my bones. There is something profoundly unsettling about removing the human element from the ultimate arbiter of statecraft. War has always been a human tragedy, written in human blood. When you sanitize it, when you replace the sailor with silicon and steel, you risk creating a frictionless apparatus of power that is far too easy to deploy.

Yet, the alternative is worse. To hold a line in a contested sea with finite human bodies while competitors build fleets that never tire is a slow recipe for obsolescence.

The demonstration at sea was not just an engineering milestone. It was a funeral for the tyranny of distance.

Down in the shipyards, the shift is already palpable. Engineers are sketching hulls that look less like ships and more like aquatic darts, designed to slice through heavy seas without a thought for human comfort. They are building nervous systems out of satellite links and encrypted mesh networks.
